Summarize podcasts on a Mac

Updated October 30, 2026

To summarize a podcast on a Mac, play the episode in Spotify, Apple Podcasts or a browser, pick that window in Screen Gist and choose Sound only. Press Start, then Stop when you've heard enough. You get a short overview, timed chapters and a transcript with speakers, for 1 credit a minute.

How to do it

  1. Play the episode

In Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Overcast on the web, YouTube or any podcast site.

  2. Pick the window and choose Sound only

Sound only is 1 credit a minute. Press Start.

  3. Press Stop

Read the overview and chapters; jump back to any time.

Speakers are told apart

Screen Gist labels each voice, so an interview reads as a conversation, and the summary says who argued what.

Audio files too

Have the episode as an MP3 or M4A? Drop the file into Screen Gist: it's read much faster than playing it, and costs its length.

Questions

Can it summarize Spotify podcasts?

Yes. Play the episode in the Spotify app or web player and pick that window.

Do I have to listen to the whole episode?

Screen Gist summarizes what plays while it records. For a whole episode faster, use its audio file if you have one.

What languages does it support?

Speech in dozens of languages is transcribed, and the summary is written in the language spoken.

How much does a one-hour podcast cost?

60 credits at the sound-only rate, about 50 cents with the $25 pack.

Try it

Screen Gist is in private beta. New Macs get 50 free credits, about 25 minutes of video, with no card needed.
