Screen Gist doesn't keep recordings. What it needs to write your summary is processed and then deleted. Your summaries and transcripts are stored only on your Mac.
What stays on your Mac
- Your summaries, transcripts and History.
- Your license key, in your Mac's Keychain.
- Your settings.
What is sent, and to whom
While you record or summarize a file, Screen Gist sends only what's needed to write your summary, through its own server, to the AI service providers we use:
- Audio, to be transcribed.
- Images from the screen and text, to understand what's shown and write the summary.
- They receive it without your name, email address or license key.
- Nothing is sent when copy-protected video shows as black, apart from its sound if you continue with sound only.
Screen Gist's server doesn't store audio, images, transcripts or summaries. The providers process them on our behalf and may keep them for a limited time for safety and abuse monitoring. To ask which providers we use, email support@screengist.app.
What Screen Gist's server keeps
- A hash of your license key, your credit balance and a record of credit purchases and charges.
- For each recording: its length, quality, how much was processed and what it cost. Never the content.
- A one-way hash of your Mac's hardware ID and of your IP address, to give free starter credits once per Mac and to limit abuse.
- If you join the waitlist, your email address, used only to tell you about the launch.
This website
- No cookies and no third-party trackers.
- We count page views, clicks on Download and waitlist sign-ups, with the page, the site you came from, any campaign tags in the link (utm_source and similar) and your country. Visitors are told apart for one day only, by a one-way hash of the IP address and browser that changes daily, so we can't follow anyone over time or see their IP address.
Payments
Purchases are handled by Paddle, our merchant of record, which collects your payment details, billing address and tax information under its own privacy policy. Screen Gist never sees your card.
Your choices
- Delete any summary from History, or all of them.
- Ask us to delete your account data or waitlist entry: email support@screengist.app.
Children
Screen Gist isn't intended for children under 13.
