# Screen Gist

> Screen Gist is a macOS app that summarizes any video, lecture, call or podcast playing on your Mac. You pick a window or your screen in the standard macOS picker, press Start, and press Stop; it gives a two-sentence overview, timed chapters, the full transcript with speakers, and descriptions of what was shown. Unlike transcript-only summarizers, it also watches the picture: it reads slides, code and on-screen text and describes what's shown, so it works on videos with no transcript or captions. It works with any app or website (YouTube, Coursera, Udemy, Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Slack, Spotify, Apple Podcasts) and with video and audio files. No bot joins calls, and no recordings are kept; summaries are stored only on the Mac. Copy-protected video (Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+) can only be summarized from its sound.
